Sacraments
Jesus Christ and His ministry of calling us to be sons and
daughters of God is at the center of our being. We celebrate the Sacraments to
show our willingness and desire for that relationship and also to remind us that
God is already present within each of us. The sacraments of Initiation are
Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist; the Sacraments of Healing are
Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick; and the Sacraments of Vocation are
Marriage and Holy Orders.
Baptism
Infant baptisms
take place on the second and fourth Sunday of the month at 1:00 PM. Parents are
required to be registered and active members of the parish. Parents are
required to attend our Baptismal Preparation Program on the first Tuesday of the
month. Attendance at class, before the birth of the child, is allowed. Parents
are asked to choose a godfather and a godmother who will take the role
seriously and be a good role model for the child. Church law sets a minimum
requirement of the godparents: at least 16 yrs old, already confirmed and a
practicing Catholic. Non-registered members who request a Baptism for their
child are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class at their own parish
and present a letter from their Pastor giving Our Lady of the Brook permission
to Baptize their child. Call the rectory to make arrangements.
Adults wishing to be baptized or complete the Sacraments of
Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) are prepared through a process
called Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RICA). Please call Deacon
Dennis McAllister or Deacon Peery Duderstadt for more information.
Children who are behind in their reception of the Sacraments
are prepared through a process called a Rite of Christian Initiation for
Children (RCIC). Please call the Religious Education Office for more
information.
Confirmation
Preparation classes for Confirmation begin in the freshman
year (9th grade) and they are confirmed in the spring of their
sophomore year (10th grade). Please call the Religious Education Office
to register.
Eucharist
The celebration of the Eucharist is a central part of our
faith community at our Lady of the Brook. Please consult the schedule for the
times of Masses.
Preparation classes for the first reception of this
Sacrament are traditionally done in the second grade. Please call the Religious
Education Office to register.
If you are sick, homebound, hospitalized or in a nursing
home, please contact the rectory to arrange for Holy Communion to be brought to
you.
Anointing of the sick
The Sacrament of the anointing of the sick offers strength
and healing of body and spirit. It is
offered two times during the year, May and October. Those who are in need of
receiving this Sacrament are asked to contact the rectory to make arrangements.
Marriage
Couples requesting to be married at Our Lady of the Brook
are required to contact the parish at least six months in advance prior to
setting dates or making plans. Please call the rectory for more information.

Sacramental Preparation
For those members of the faith community who wish to prepare
to receive one or more of the sacraments, the parish offers several options:
rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), the rite of Christian
initiation for Children of Catechetical Age (RCIC), Parents programs in
preparation for infant Baptism, Marriage Preparation, and the Christian
Education Program.
Formal classes, worship, personal reflection, prayer and
family centered activities are important elements in preparing to receive the
sacraments. Preparation requires time to learn, reflect, serve and pray so that
one may respond in many ways to the invitation to share more deeply in God’s
love and grace.
The experience of conversion comes when one is open to God’s
spirit. Though sacramental preparation is emphasized in second and fourth
grades, and again in high school, families should decide when they are best
able to prepare for and celebrate a particular sacrament.
For more information on the Religious Education
Classes, the requirements and process of receiving the Sacraments and to
volunteer to help these programs in the area of Youth Ministry, please call the
CEP office at 847.272.5131 to register, or for more information.
